Honda has issued a recall of approximately 14,078 model year 2013-2014 Acura ILX and ILX Hybrid vehicles due to defective headlights that can possibly cause a fire.

Which Acura models are affected by the recall?

Model year 2013-2014 Acura ILX and ILX Hybrid vehicles equipped with halogen projector headlights. These vehicles were produced from January 16, 2012 -March 1, 2013; January 12, 2012 – February 7, 2013; May 2, 2013 – May 31, 2014 and October 18, 2013 – February 19, 2014.

What causes the possible fire risk?

Defective headlights. Excessive heat temperature around the headlight bulb and reflector might diminish the output and can possibly cause smoke, melting and fire.

Are there any known accidents attributed to the defect?

At this time, Honda is not aware of any accidents or injuries due to the related problem, however a case was reported where a fire started after the vehicle had been sitting idle, with the headlights on, for a few hours, while charging the battery.

What do I do if my car is one of those affected?

Honda will be notifying all owners affected by the recall on July 28, 2014. Honda/Acura will replace the headlights free of charge.
